Art Galleries

Portland has a reputation as a city full of art lovers. From vast labyrinthine art galleries to tiny studio showrooms, nearly every neighborhood boasts at least one art gallery or shop. Here is a brief sampling of the many galleries in our area:


Art Institute of Portland Gallery 1122 NW Davis, 503-382-4752
A non-commercial exhibition space, the gallery of the Art Institute of Portland is designed to challenge and inspire students while exposing the community to relevant student, faculty, and professional work. Open Monday through Thursday from 9am to 6pm, on Fridays from 9am to 4pm, and on Saturdays from 9am to 2pm. 

Augen Gallery 1817 SW 2nd Avenue, 503-224-8182
The Augen Gallery is located on the first and second floor of a historic Yahmhill District building that dates back to 1894. Founded in 1979, the gallery?s 10,000 square feet of space showcase both regional artists and emerging artists from around the country. Open Monday through Saturday, 10:30am to 5:30pm. 

Blackfish Gallery 420 NW 9th Avenue, 503-224-2634
Blackfish Gallery has existed as an artist-cooperative entity since 1979. Focusing on progressive, though-provoking contemporary work; Blackfish thrives on the cooperative spirit. Open Tuesday through Saturday, Noon to 5pm. 

Butters Gallery, Ltd 520 NW Davis, 503-248-9378
Family owned and operated since 1988, the Butters Gallery is an important art source for both private and corporate collectors nationwide. This gallery incorporates art from all artistic backgrounds and includes paintings, drawings, prints, photographs, and sculpture. Open Tuesday through Friday from 10am to 5:30pm, and on Saturdays from 11am to 5pm. 

Pulliam Deffenbaugh Gallery 1522 NW 12th Avenue, 503-228-6665
The Pulliam Deffenbaugh gallery specializes in contemporary art and features a diverse range of sculpture, paintings, and prints. The gallery takes great pride in providing exceptional service to both the casual art buyer and the seasoned collector. Open Tuesday through Saturday, 11am to 5:30om, or by appointment. 

Alysia Duckler Gallery 1236 NW Hoyt Street, 503-223-7595
The Alysia Duclker gallery represents artists with regional and national reputations, and shows artwork within a wide range of media. Alysia Duckler is a full service gallery and offers personal assistance to buyers of all types. Open Tuesday through Friday from 10:30am to 5:30pm, and on Saturdays from 11am to 5pm. 

Froelick Gallery 817 SW 2nd Avenue, 503-222-1142
The Froelick Gallery opened in 1995 and features the work of artists from the Pacific Northwest as well as the work of contemporary Japanese print makers. Located in downtown Portland, the gallery rests its reputation on the strength of the artists, the knowledge of its employees, and its warm atmosphere. Open Tuesday through Friday from 11am to 6pm, and on Saturdays from 10am to 5pm. 

Jadestone Gallery 220 SW First Avenue, 503-243-2014
Jadestone?s founders began collecting Chinese art in the 1960?s, and are dedicated to the study, purchase, and sale of fine Chinese antiques and works of art. Each item in their vast collection has been hand picked and authenticated. Open by appointment only. 

Lawrence Gallery 903 NW Davis St, 503-228-1776
Purveyors of fine art for over 25 years, the Lawrence gallery has an established record. Their Portland gallery is located in the heart of the Pearl District. Open Monday through Saturday from 10am to 5:30pm and on Sundays from Noon to 5pm. 

Elizabeth Leach Gallery 207 SW Pine Street, 503-224-0521
Established in 1981, the Elizabeth Leach Gallery occupies over 3,500 square feet in a historic downtown Portland building. Still featuring original maple floors and brick walls, the gallery features works of all mediums by both established and emerging artists. Open Tuesday through Saturday from 10:30am to 5:30pm, or by appointment. 

Quintana Galleries 120 NW Ninth Avenue, 503-223-1729
Quintana Galleries has been an important forum for Native American Art since its inception in 1972. Their collection features both antique and contemporary work, and one of their primary goals is active involvement in Native culture. Open Tuesday through Saturday from 10:30am to 5:30pm. 

Laura Russo Gallery 805 NW 21st Avenue, 503-226-2754
The Laura Russo Gallery features works by contemporary artists in a variety of styles and mediums. The gallery showcases contemporary Northwest artists as well as work by internationally recognized artists. Open Tuesday through Friday from 11am to 5:30pm, on Saturdays from 11am to 5pm, or by appointment. 

Mark Woolley Gallery 120 NW 9th Avenue, Suite 210, 503-224-5475
With a space overlooking the historic North Park Blocks, the Mark Woolley Gallery has been showcasing contemporary artists since 1993. The gallery presents works of all mediums and mixed mediums, as well as installation pieces. Open Tuesday through Saturday from 11am to 6pm, or by appointment.

Artist?s Gallery 21 is an artist-cooperative gallery that shows original art of all mediums. The gallery features the work of regional artists, and their inventory changes frequently.

Firehouse No. 12 518 Main, 360-695-2660
Housed in what was once a turn-of-the-century bank, Firehouse No. 12 is a comprehensive center for glass art. The innovative gallery is the home of Firehouse Glass, and also features both emerging and nationally acclaimed glass artists. The building has a full glass blowing facility, and Firehouse No.12 also offers glass working classes and workshops. Open Tuesday through Saturday from 10am to 5pm.
